HJ Heinz wants people to see the purity and the quality in every product. So he uses clear bottles for packaging.

HELLO, KETCHUP.
America gets its first taste of tomato ketchup. Over 130 years later, Heinz is still America’s Favorite Ketchup®.

 

1890

A GLASS ICON IS BORN.
Heinz develops the octagonal-shaped glass bottle. Which becomes a globally recognized symbol of Heinz.

 

1937

THAT’S ONE BIG PLANT.
Ketchup plant, that is. Based in Ohio, Heinz builds what eventually becomes the largest ketchup factory in the US.

A NEW BREED.
Some super smart people start HeinzSeed, a program for breeding proprietary tomato seeds.  

 

1968

KETCHUP TO GO.
Heinz introduces the cutest ketchup to date: individual foil ketchup packets.

 

1970

COLOSSAL KETCHUP.
We love people who love to put ketchup on everything. So for them, Heinz introduces the 32-ounce bottle

 

1975

WORTH THE WAIT.
A classic Heinz commercial is born. Two kids wait for thick, rich Heinz ketchup to Carly Simon’s “Anticipation”.

 

1983

MOVE OVER GLASS.
There’s a new bottle in town. Heinz revolutionizes ketchup packaging with the new plastic squeeze bottle.

 

1990

RED GOES GREEN.
To the delight of people and the planet, the first fully recyclable bottle from Heinz hits store shelves.

 

2000

EXTREME KETCHUP MAKEOVER.
Heinz gets a little crazy and launches green ketchup. Turns out our crazy idea was pretty awesome.

 

2002

EVERYTHING’S UPSIDE DOWN.
Heinz develops the upside-down bottle. The way we see it: Less mess. Less squeezing. Less knife poking.

SPICING THINGS UP.
Burgers. Hot dogs. Fries. With the launch of Ketchup Kickr’sTM you could spice up just about anything.

DIFFERENT KETCHUP FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS.
Heinz unveils ketchups for every taste: No Salt Added, Reduced Sugar and Organic ketchups.

 

2007

HUNGRY FOR FAME.
Ketchup fans get the chance to make the next Heinz commercial with the Top This! TV Challenge. The prize? $57,000.

 

2009

SAME KETCHUP, NEW LOOK.
A new Heinz® Tomato Ketchup label replaces the pickle with a tomato. And features the slogan, “Grown Not Made®”.

 

2010

BACK TO BASICS.
New Simply Heinz® boasts simple ingredients: red ripe tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, salt and our own blend of spices and flavorings.

NOT-SO-LITTLE PACKETS.
New Dip & Squeeze® ketchup packets offer more ways to enjoy ketchup. Not to mention 3 times as much ketchup than traditional packets.


 

2011

NOT YOUR GARDEN VARIETY.
For the first time in 10 years, Heinz introduces a new ketchup flavor: Ketchup blended with Balsamic Vinegar.


 

2012

ZING!
Heinz puts a little zesty twist on classic ketchup with the introduction of Heinz® Ketchup blended with real jalapeno.
